Obesity and the Body Mass Index
Obesity is a condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it can cause a variety of adverse health consequences, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. Obesity is associated with many diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
There are many methods of measuring body fat, but the most popular (and the simplest) is the Body Mass Index (BMI) which measures the relationship between your weight and height. A BMI of 23 or more puts you at greater risk of obesity-related diseases.
